Project Description

Dallas doesn’t dim at midnight. It just changes color.

AT&T Plaza in downtown Dallas is one of those urban spaces that earns its keep after dark. The fountain jets catch the light in even rows across the plaza, the modern pavilion structure glows in saturated purple against the night sky, and behind it all the older buildings of downtown Dallas stand bathed in wash lighting that turns limestone facades into something almost cinematic. The red crown of an Art Deco tower punctuates the skyline in the middle distance like an exclamation point.

What makes this frame work is the layering — foreground water, middle ground contemporary structure, background historic fabric, all held together by a color palette that only exists after sundown. This is the kind of urban environment that rewards the photographer who shows up after everyone else has gone home.

Downtown Dallas at night is a different city. A better one for the camera.
